Yes! Another brewery opened in Metro Vancouver!
It’s starting to be that time of year: all of the anticipated breweries are opening their doors and the beer is flowing like crazy! In fact, 33 Acres Brewing just had to shut down their tap room because they ran out of beer, and well, Powell Street Brewing shuts down every week for the same reason.
The fact is, Vancouver needs more breweries to keep up with the rabid beer junkies that roam our streets. Thank you Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers for providing another outlet for us beer addicts. And let me just say: this is one fine establishment.
The colour scheme is what caught my eye right upon entry. It’s a mix of stainless steel and black, which pairs rather nicely with the wall of stacked barrels lining the near wall.
Up at the bar, the very friendly beer guru led me through their year-round varieties: Loud Mouth Pale Ale, Wise Crack West Coast Lager, and the Quick Wit Wheat Ale. I must say, when one sees the word “lager”, one doesn’t think it will amount to much. However, this particular lager caught me so off guard, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Indeed it was a “West Coast” variety: heavily hopped… for a lager, that is.
For now they just have beer, but as their name suggests, they are distillers, too. Watch out for some of their upcoming spirits, as they join the newest craze in the booze world: craft distilling.
Yes, this new brewery on the Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver has created a nice little spot for an afternoon beer day. Here is how to do it:
1. Arrive at Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers
2. Work through the taps, finishing with a growler purchase
3. Lunch across the street at The Crab Shop (Legendary North Vancouver spot)
4. Walk around the corner to Bridge Brewing Co.
5. Work through the taps, finishing with a growler purchase
6. Have a designated driver
Thank you, Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers, you’ve helped create a nice little experience of North Shore hospitality — not to mention help loosen the belt on Vancouver’s ever-expanding beer-gut.
