We are a little over halfway through 2014, and already this has been a record year in Vancouver for brewery openings. In 2013, we saw six breweries open up in the likes of Four Winds, Central City Production Facility, 33 Acres, Deep Cove, Brassneck, and Green Leaf. This next wave — the 2014 wave — has already seen nine openings, with more on the way!
We’ve felt a storm of openings this year with the following breweries setting up shop so far in 2014:
- Black Kettle
- White Rock Beach Beer
- Main Street
- Steamworks (Tasting Room & Production Facility)
- Steel & Oak
- Yellow Dog
And there are still breweries under construction optimistically stating 2014 as their opening date:
- Steel Toad Brewpub
- Red Truck
- Moody Ales
- Strange Fellows
- Off the Rail
The chances of all of these opening within the 2014 calendar year is unlikely, in my opinion. But regardless, with the potential of having 16 breweries opening in 2014 (up from 5 in 2013), Vancouver is set to become a major centre of beer tourism, and on the radar of beer geeks worldwide.
